For the development of any field, both theory and application are essential. In contemporary linguistics, these two branches play a vital role, contributing both to the study of languages and to their effective use. It is evident that such contributions enrich linguistic research as well as practical language use. Therefore, to sustain this relationship and benefit, foundational books on linguistics as well as research-oriented works are necessary. With this objective in mind, this book has been written under the title “Linguistics.” It is designed to be useful to a wide range of readers—students learning language and linguistics, researchers engaged in language study, those who wish to understand general and specialized concepts about language, as well as scholars from various disciplines.
