Taking V. D. Savarkar, regarded as the father of Hindutva, as an example, Amit Shah, India’s Home Minister and a leader of the BJP, has advised that Indian history should henceforth be written “by Indians from the standpoint of an Indian.” Based on such an approach to writing history, this collection contains seven essays that examine the “histories” written and being written by Hindutva proponents, along with perspectives on Supreme Court judgments that grant legal validity to religious beliefs.
